Experimental Evaluation of Visual Effects for Tactile Sensation in Augmented Reality Environment

The influence of visual effects for tactile sensation in augmented reality environment is experimentally evaluated. Texture and dent are used as the visual effects. Pitch and brightness difference in stripe textures are used as parameters. Radius and depth of dent are also utilized. At first, preliminary experiment on a few subjects was conducted to find the change in tactile sensation by visual effects. Then, the influence of visual effects on tactile sensation was experimentally evaluated. The results show that depth of dent induces a feeling of softness and brightness difference induces a feeling of roughness.
